    Valve Cover Gaskets

Any recommendations for valve cover gaskets? These intrigue me, but I gather they need really low torque specs which sorta makes me worry abt bolts backing out: https://realgaskets.com/product/valve-cover-gaskets-35/Also been eyeballing the Moroso but they seem a bit pricey. Haven't...

    Engine losing power going uphill

Ok, ya thanks for clarifying. I guess my brain was thinking flow, not pressure. I think part of me was not wanting to accept the fact that a 5 yr old pump was going bad already. I recall the one I installed being a Delphi brand. Motorcraft doesn't seem to be an option anymore. At least not...

    Engine losing power going uphill

I redid the entire fuel system about 5 yrs ago. The truck used to be a farm truck and ran on propane most of its life. I left it like that for most of the 15 yrs I've owned it, but with the only propane supplier left in town a fair drive away I got sick of making the drive so got the gasoline...

    Engine losing power going uphill

Thanks for the reply! Ya no cats on this one fortunately. I just ran out and did a quick check on the timing chain. Rotated the engine to TDC and then watched the dist rotor as i slowly rotated the engine backward. Only got abt 2-3 degrees before the rotor started moving, so there doesn't...

    Engine losing power going uphill

The truck, 1978 F250, 460, is hitting a wall at about 45-50mph when going up over the local mountain here. It's like a giant flat spot in the throttle where the engine is running but just continues to bog and slow as the grade gets steeper. Used to be she could fly over at 60+ without even...

    Rewiring loom to ignition coil

Finished the re-wire today and fired her up again with no problems! No meltdowns in the system and no stalls anymore when driving around normally. Idles smoother now, and I notice the volt gauge is reading a healthier and more consistent 13.8ish than it was prior. Pics of some of the work...

    Rewiring loom to ignition coil

Just an update on this in case anyone else needs the info. I've been compiling the equipment needed for the job. I decided not to solder the wiring in but completely redo the harness including the plugs on both ends (since the plug coming off the distributor partially crumbled when I...

    Rewiring loom to ignition coil

Welp...as is the way with old vehicles, a simple job turned into a bigger one. Did a tune-up on the ol '78 460 for the first time in 10 yrs. Among other things, replaced the old original ignition coil. The original connector cap for it was super loose and cause the truck to stall going over...

    Suspension help for a GM

Ya I think it's strange too. Hence this post for help. Guess I'll just bite the bullet and replace the shocks with OEM and see how it feels after. They don't move much, but they do move, so likely not stuck; but so far anyway they're the only thing I've seen that isn't stock. It should be a...

    Suspension help for a GM

Hope I'm posting in the right section...but need some help figuring what's going on w my girlfriend's car, a 2018 Buick Encore. Basically, the ride quality is super, super harsh. It's like the wheels are connected directly to the body. Going over a speed bump will crush your spine. My 1978...

    87 Grand Marquis Help

Wait...pump in frame too? Test port? ug. Sounds like I was a bit out of my depth anyway. Like I said initially, 80's American, and OBD-I, is largely a mystery to me. But this wasn't the car to learn on IMO. Too many hands had already been on it it seems. Deleting stuff. Hopefully...

    87 Grand Marquis Help

Not sure what you mean by "test plug" but it did have a schrader valve in the fuel rail right next to the distributor. So I was able to screw in my fuel pressure gauge to it and see the reading. Never came off of zero.:rotz:

    87 Grand Marquis Help

Well, I decided to pass on the car. I had a go at it today. Once I got the car raised up on jack stands and was able to get a better look underneath I was able to see some things I wasn't real happy with. The AIR Pump had already been deleted with the pipes running to the cats already cut and...

    87 Grand Marquis Help

Neato! Definitely better than going into it blind. When I first got my truck in 2006 it had been converted and running strictly on propane since 1982. The farm/seller I got it from really had no recollection of the status of the fuel in the tanks so I did drop those and clean them out before I...

    87 Grand Marquis Help

Thanks for that. I've perused Amazon listings for those in the past but there's soooo many freakin options and the prices are all over the map I sort of got brain freeze with it. Impossible to tell what's good and what's not. If that one works for you though I'll grab one too. Especially for...
