Really sucks on the interstate battery warranty too. Used to be 5 years, now just 36 months.
And for the 36 months that's pro rated. I was really upset last month on one of my batteries.
So here's my question for all these brilliant scholars out there. If we go all electric how the hell we going to keep that crap running?

It looks like both trucks are now about 100% operational....the 79 oil pressure appears to be a little low and the mechanic was wondering if maybe putting in regular oil will make a difference/ as opposed to synthetic that's been in there the last 10 years or so...it's the synthetic for olde cars from Amsoil that has the zinc additive in it.

The 77 had a leak at the seal on the aluminum radiator hose and we thought it might be the radiator itself.

They are. I think mine was a 30 month free replacement. I got a free replacement, but still, 5 months on a new battery?

Yeah, that's pretty bad.

I've head the reason for batteries being so poor compared to the old days is W-mart forcing their manufacturer to make them cheap and other folks had to do the same or not be able to sell a battery.

Ken, glad you got your trucks going!

The best battery I had was in a 2006 not-ford. It lasted 8 years with winters well below zero. It was a panasonic. I couldn't find a replacement in the aftermarket world. :headbang:

Thanks.....man, letting these things sit are HARD on them.....I'm going to commit to driving them more each summer...my plan is to take them out when the weather is such (rain [confused]) that I don't want to take out the....AHEM....GM product convertibles!

So, we've had the 77 for 11-12 years now I think and we are on our second battery. Both trucks used to sit on tenders all winter, but now that they are in their own private cold storage metal barn, I just disconnect the battery and this spring, they both started up just fine.

The 79 we've had for 8-9 years I think and it's still on the SAME battery from when I bought it.

I've got a little Interstate Blem in my 87, it gets unhooked when the truck sits. I put it in right before grandma passed, in 06. Also had great luck out of a Kirtland Signature that was in a loader I drug home. Little battery, started the IHC 6 cylinder fine, no idea how old it was, some inferior sub species of person stole it out of my father's 8N one night.

Kirtland signature is a rebadged interstate fyi.
Those are what I run now since I have had so many Duracell failures over the last 6-8 years

Good to know. The Kirkland double A's and Triple A's used to be really good batteries. They would even wear out the pink bunny.

Interesting. I never had great luck with interstates, just that one. Or two I guess. Running Motorcraft or A/C delco mostly now.

Finally got the twins out this week to stretch their legs....man, letting them sit is HARD on them....my mechanic had to change the oil twice, drain and dump all the gas, replace all filters and some seals were GONE......these poor trucks don't get the attention they need. They need to be DRIVEN!

Been paying too much attention to the vettes! YIKES![confused]

It was fun getting in them and driving them; getting the 77 even up to highway speeds. It's been too long, so I'm going to attempt to put a hundred or so miles on them every single year!

We also might have a lake house soon (put an offer on it last night and it comes with a massive 4 bay garage) and I'll be storing them in a heated and humidity controlled environment, so that ought to help with any condensation at least.

Nice, glad you were able to get them out a little bit!

Thanks....I don't know how people do it that have many vehicles.....letting these things sit are hard on them.

Yeah, and it's certainly harder for you guys that have to deal with hard winters. I can drive mine year around which makes it easier for sure.

Been playing with mine a little finally. By playing I mean I put about 600 miles on the little 73 in the last week and a half. Had to press her into service doing some renovation on my grandmother's house. She got new tires on the front, rear two balanced, ( had to refresh my memory on the bubble balancer.....) and I'm convinced I got all the ethanol gas out!

The 79, on the other hand, decided to be a turd. Was driving it regularly around the 4th of July, burning the winter fuel out. ( that's my excuse anyway. A healthy American V8 under the right foot is required for festivities around here.)
Anyway, ran it around on the front tank until the rear tank ran out of gas. So I put a tank valve in it. Then the rear main started dumping. So it got parked until I'm not mad at it anymore.

600 miles is no joke.....I'll have a very difficult time getting that kind of mileage on my two trucks combined this summer, but like I said, I'm going to make a more conservative effort to do it.
