Voltage Limiter on guage cluster?

dakonthemountain

Hey guys,
I'm up on the mountain and the manuals for Burt are at the city house... so I have a question. My temp AND charging gauges both just stopped working at the same time. The gauge housing is only a few years old, so I know it's not that, but I seem to remember reading here at one point about a voltage limiter that "often goes bad" on the back of the cluster on the circuit board on our trucks? Can anyone enlighten me? A while back I thought my temp gauge was bad, but it turned out that they were both not reading..

Thanks!
Dak

not really a limiter, more like a regulator of a pulsing 5 volts

D1AZ10804A .. ICVR = Instrument Cluster Voltage Regulator (Motorcraft GR513) / Available from Ford.

Fits: 1971/86 F100/350 / 1971/91 Econoline / 1971/72 Galaxie/LTD / 1974/78 Mustang II / 1978/86 Bronco, and etc etc etc.

Take the old one with you to the parts store to match it up. There are 10 other types, none will be correct, and most autoparts store parts personnel have no clue.

Thanks Bill and ic237!
I really liked the description of your product from what I've seen. Of course I'd like to keep the truck original though, but I see that all you do is plug it in with the male/female ring connectors, so thats cool. I'm not sure which way I want to go now!

Anyone used the one ic237 links to?

Thanks again!
Dak

Wow cool thread DAK, somehow I knew you'd eventually be good for
something. ;)

Doggonit ic237, I have several original Instrument Voltage Regulators
I've been saving for years and now they are all obsolete. LOL :)

The Borg Warner solid state voltage regulator (I replaced the original
mechanical one with) has been one of my favorite "up grades". The
original was still working but knew a solid state would work smoother
and so replaced it.

DAK, what's the price on a new Motorcraft GR513?

Alvin..:guns: I've been a little helpful here and there through the years on the "other" site and on here. Now my feelings are hurt. :( smilietease

From the other site and a thread that Bill posted back in February that I just found: (Thanks Bill! )

"D1AZ10804A .. ICVR (Motorcraft GR513) / Available from Ford.

MSRP: $78.36 // FTE Ford Dealer Parts Dept sponsor PARTSGUYED.COM price: $42.31.

Fits: 1977/79 LTD II/Ranchero/Cougar/Thunderbird without Tachometer.

Fits: 1971/72 LTD/Mercury Marquis / 1971/86 F100/350 / 1971/91 E100/350 / 1978/86 Bronco / 1972/76 Thunderbird/Continental Mark"

Well, given the price, and actually as Mark stated. No one will see it, and if it's an upgrade that is more reliable and consistent... I've decided to go with ic237's product. I'll let ya all know how it works out!

Peace,
Dak

When I was a member of the various Nissan Titan sites (I've owned several, and was on these sites before finding FTE or FTF), I learned real quick that...

When a newbie's first post is promoting a product, these people were trolls and spammers.

Now, I'm not saying this is the case here, but CAVEAT EMPTOR = Let the buyer beware!

D1AZ10804A .. ICVR (Motorcraft GR513)

The prices are (amazingly!) still the same > > MSRP: $78.36 // PARTSGUYED.COM price: $42.31.

Over the years I have collected several of these ICVR's just in case some day someone needs one for $25.00 ;)

But see Dennis? :)
...you are smarter than me, I was just going to give one away.
...especially now that I know I can get an improved version! ;)
...but seems to me they aren't hard to find locally, not a high
demand item at a junk yard, IME.

I have 3 or 4.But I can just flash them to the lady in the office and walk out
of the junkyard. It's a worthless silver box with snap buttons to them. But then again,I'm a frequent customer.:)
Same here but I've never had any luck with the ladies when I've flashed 'em. :/

At the junk yards they've always been guys and many times when they see
all the stupid junk I picked up like bolts and crap like that, they tell me...
"get out of here :)" or "catch you next time :)".

Snap buttons on ICVR's were only used with printed circuit boards, first used in 1970 on F Series trucks. But the ICVR used in 1970 (C9AZ10804A) is not the same as D1AZ10804A.

1957/70: There were seven different ICVR's. Chain autoparts store personnel usually have no clue, don't know one ICVR from another, only go by what their 'puter says.

This is why when you go to an autoparts store to buy a replacement ICVR, you should take the old one with you to match it up.

Your Mustang does not have a printed circuit, so...the ICVR is C6DZ10804A. There were no printed circuits used on Mustang's until 1969.
