I have used Por I just put the wire wheel on the grinder like Ben said and paint. Holds up OK. The salt here eats it off but it takes a while.

Will do. Was gonna use it initially on the frame and other under carriage areas.

I assume for the smooth surfaces you would need the metal primer spray stuff they sell that etches the bare metal?

Yes , I peeled the dry POR 15 off of the inside of the can and lid with no problem

Sand blasted surfaces are OK

any other metal etcher product available that I can pick up from like Lowe's?

Where locally can you get POR 15 (i.e., local hardware store, parts store, etc...)
Or do you have to buy it online?
