The 221 is the smallest of the Windsor V8s. Unfortunately, it does not share the same bellhousing pattern. Finding a truck type 4 speed for it may be difficult. The 351W that I have would bolt up nicely to the NP435/NP205 combo I have...

I love the smell of gear lube in the morning.

This will be the new front axle for the CJ. I will be regearing it to 3.73 and adding some kind of traction device, to be figured out later.

I am going to be removing all the Jeep mounts, and setting it up for spring over leafs.

Is that a Dana 30?

Yes sir!

It will be matched up with the disc brake 8.8 from my Mountaineer. I will be using the 16" wheels and 33x10 BFG KM2s from the Mountaineer as well.

Needs d44 minumum if you're adding a "traction device" IMO.

Don't think Kris has a thread on his, no build really. All stock as far as I know.

Frame rail width could present a problem on transfer cases and limit selection.

Engine compartment is tiny from what I remember.. 302 is probably going to be tough to fit, let alone 351w... but a nice roller efi 302 would make for a good trail/all around motor IMO.

No D44 needed. With 33" tires, and an lightweight rig, after the D30 is trussed, it will hold up just fine. What kills D30 R&P is housing deflection. Once the housing is stiffened up, they hold together nicely for lightweight small tire rigs.

As far as 351 vs 302, there is a very small difference in size between them, and only like 75 lbs I believe. I have a 79 302, but it would need machine work, as it overheated and possibly warped a head. On the other hand, I have a used, but well running 351W just sitting in the shop...

As far as it fitting, people have put a lot bigger engines in CJs than a 351. It can be made to work.

I'd go 351w and be done... You'd never wonder what it would be like with more power

What happens to the mountaineer then?
