1966 F100 shortbed repair

My newest project is a 1966 F100 shortbed. The cab and bed are no good. I bought a cab and bed from California for it. The only problem is the bed I bought is a longbed. Anyone ever cut a longbed down to fit a shortbed truck? My plan is to leave the original short floor and cut the bed sides off, then shorten the longbed sides by removing 2 sections one in front and the other from the rear of the wheel. I will be starting this soon and plan to post some pics up. Didn't know if anyone had ever attempted this yet.

I would start by measuring both beds and right down their lengths. I would then measure from the front to the middle of the wheel well on both beds, then measure from there to the back of the bed on both of them. remeausure a couple times and you'll be ready to do what u need to do I'd imagine

Will be breaking out the plazma cutter for fine trimming.

I expect this truck to be absolutely rust free in a week!

This truck looks like it has the potential to be rowdy and menacing. As for the bed, sorry, no real help from me...I know I've seen guys that have done it before, and they attacked it the way you are...hack off some up front and some behind the wheel. Anywho...care to share the direction you plan on going with this rig?

I wish I had to push it outside to get my wifes car in the shop her steering is screwed up, and they we got into a car accident the other day and wrecked my Lincoln LS so that will be in there next. My project has been put on hold for now.

Yeah I measured the old bed and compard to the 8' I know how much I need to take out of it, my plan is to work from the wheel well out. The truck is a 6cyl stick now, I have a 410 FE Merc motor that I am gonna build, might get alittle crazy with it, thats still up in the air as this truck will be my son's in about 6 years. Unsure if im gonna keep it a stick or goto an automatic. I have another cab for the truck as well so i'll be doing a cab swap. The only things that will be original will be the doors and frame.

Got the truck back in the garage, started getting the side cut down and mounted got the rear half done and on will need some fine tuning before welding.

Very surprised how well the seams and body lines line back up after I took 7 inchs out of the rear section. Will only have to work it alittle to be lined up perfectly.
