tranny fuel on intake

71 F100 360, i noticed it started to collect tranny fluid on the intake, back passenger side. there is a line that looks like it comes from the tranny and is stuck on a little square box that is on the intake right behind the carberator. is there a gasket or something under that little square or should i be looking somewhere else. the line that is coming up from the tranny is a metal line and there is a six inch rubber line from it to the manifold which i have replaced

Replace the modulator valve on your tranny, it has a ruptured diaphram in it...

easy to get to? could that modulator effect transmission performance

Yes if it is leaking. It should be on the passenger side of the rear of the trans.

could that explain the smoke coming out of the vent of the valve cover

Maybe..

the modulator is vaccum operated.. If engine vaccum sucks fluid past the modulator is can be burned with the fuel.

I use trans fluid in my fuel once a year to clean the valve and piston related parts.
