F250 fuel problem

Don't know if I'm doing this right but here goes. I have a 1988 F250 4x4, 5.0, with dual tanks. Had fuel problems in the past with the truck shutting off, waiting for it to cool off and was then able to get it running again. I changed the relay, filter, and through some bad trouble shooting on my part, two fuel pumps. I run off of the front tank as the tank selector switch doesn't work. The shutting off problem is occurring again. I'm noticing that the pump on the rail doesn't cycle when the key is on. Does the power go to the tank pump first and then to the rail pump or do they both cycle at the same time? Also, will a bad oil pressure switch kill power to the pump(s)?
