Slight differences in suspension and emissions related equipment. There is speculation that there were differences in frames, but I don't know about that.

That's what my understanding is as well....frame seems the same though.

The difference between the F100 and F150 between 1975 and 1983 is the suspension is heavier and the GVW is heavier for the F150, as opposed to the F100, from 1975 to 1978 the F150 on up to the F350, didn't require unleaded fuel, after 1979 up to current models Ford went to mandatory use of unleaded fuel in all of the trucks., after 1983 the F100 was discontinued, as well as the Ranger trim packages on the F-Series, and the Ranger in 1983 became its own model, which superseded the Courier, as their compact truck, and the XLT and XLT Lariat took place of the Ranger XLT and Ranger Lariat in the F-Series truck line in the 1984 model year. Hopefully this helps you, and also gives you more Ford truck trivia and facts as a bonus. :)

One more thing, the F-150 is 5x5.5 whereas the F-100 was 5x4.5...

wasn't the frame on the F100 drilled out with holes to lighten it?

I believe that was done on all the early 80's trucks....the swiss cheese frame

Only the f-100. The 150 maintained a solid frame I believe. But yes I've seen many swiss cheese frames.
