So with the gauges dancing like they do, all at the same time and in the same direction would it be the alternator or the voltage regulator???

Or grounding issues at the cluster, maybe?

Usually a grounding wire.

I pulled a ground wire on my truck that was connected to the exhaust manifold and forgot to put it back on when I put the header on, and the guagues were all 'off' a bit, and much more volitile.

I'll check the grounds the next time I'm out working on it, I know the terminals are good because I just cleaned them when I put the battery in...

Everybody else knew what I was talking about...

The needles sweep from their correct positions all the way to the right side of the gauge, usually happens when "adjusting" the rpms...

There are several types of dance

gauges are ......sweeping from left to right and back !

Rapidly, slowly, fully/halfway.....etc

You can have a bad ICVR, bad ground for the cluster, bad connection from the starter relay LUG, etc

Can you film it for me ?

My guess is a bad I.C.V.R.

shown here under the speedo head

they all have them

Falcon,Fairlane,Mustang Cougar,etc

Would you like a part number for the mustang ?
