Same here. I would have never thought to run that.
I could have picked up about 6 cases of that at $5 a case.

I haven't had the chance to put many miles on the 79, so I'll know more this upcoming summer.

But on the 77, when I first got it home in 2010 (? I forget), the newly, highly, rebuilt 400 initially had regular petroleum 10w40 to break in the motor.....after a few talks with the original engine builder in Seattle and with Amsoil techies, once I got it home and the ODO rolled over 10k miles, they gave the ok to flush the engine with detergent (from Amsoil) and put in 0w30 because of where I lived.......

Almost no hard starts in the winter as I still start the truck every couple of weeks during its winter storage.

During the hottest days of the month, the average temp dropped 20 degrees, but I think some of this was due to the radiator solution Amsoil sells (Chris?)......I put this in there, cause if you fellas remember back then, I was running the roads pretty good that first summer going to car shows with it. Changed the oil in it for the first time since then (only 3k on it since 2010 and I know it sat in there for a few years, but even when I drained it, it still looked almost new, replaced the filters (dual filtration system on it, added on by the PO) and even the filters (from Amsoil also) looked great with hardly any noticeable dirt in them....really blew me away.

^^^wanted to stay with 0w30 for the new f150 and expi, but after talking with Chris and the Amsoil techies, their signature series 100% synthetic 5w20 is best....so that's what I'm going with this spring.

The coolant boost is an awesome product. Your temp drop was a combo of the coolant boost and the all synthetic oil. Less friction less heat, then add in the coolant boost which helps absorb then disperse heat... Hard to beat..

The only other oil I would suggest to ya Ken would be the Zrod.. It's SUPER high in zinc and is specific for older flat tappet modified engines. But only comes in 10w30 and 20w50.

But with the amount of time the truck sits id stay with the signature series for the TBN retention.

Yeah on a completed stock modular 5w20 is the ticket. I only suggest 0w30(North) or 10w30 (south) for modified modulars.

I guess I should post up what I'm running lol..

Running obviously Amsoil 0w30 signature series in the Flareside, and Amsoil OE 5w30 in the taurus. Running 5w30 in the taurus cause the original design was for 5w30 and then they back spec'd it. 3k miles later on the OE and it hasn't burn a drop. Still really clean. BUT that is NOT how you determine OCI's!!! Can't stress it enough. Visual inspection of oil does no good

What ever it had before, wen I changed it, it was 2 qts low. Only had 3k miles on that OCI. Gonna move it up to signature series next time.

Didn't think of it, don't hardly ever see it cause very few use it.

That's cause 5w50, especially the motorcraft shears BADLY down to a heavy 30.

So me and a few other dealers suggest to guys running gt500's etc, run a 10w30 if down south, or a 0w30 up north if year round driven. Otherwise if stores during winter a 10w30 is the money. This is plenty unless a pure track car. Then we suggest the Dominator line 15w50 for only track driven cars.

The big reason why the 5w50 shears is it's got to large of a gap, so they use heavy Viscosity improvers, and those lose potency really quick.
