Party van

This Econoline showed up this weekend at a friends party. They use it at rallies for camping and such. After talking to him about it i have come to the realization that I don't know much about these things. Its a 1990 E-350 with a 7.3 diesel. Quigley Conversions http://www.quigley4x4.com/tabid/72/Default.aspx

When I bought my new E 350 in 04, I was going to order it with the conversion, but then reality set in

I don't remember the figures off the top of my head, but aren't the conversion prices almost as much as another van?

Thought so...I've heard guesstimates anywhere from $10-25k. I think that's pretty nuts. Figure you get a $1000 D60 that needs a $300 rebuild, a $100 tcase that needs a $250 rebuild, accompanying $1000 tires and some know how/fab work...and you're in it for under 3 grand and a week's worth of time. Hell say you need to spend $1000 in tools, you're still less than half than a Quigley conversion.

Seems to me I paid 24k for the base 1 ton van. Then they wanted 4k for diesal and 8k for 4wd. But don't quote me on those 2004 prices. That was 6 years ago.

The diesel doesn't seem bad, seems to be a 3-5k check box at Ford. And I guess labor would be the difference for 4wd.

I agree with Ben. Take a parts truck + used van= conversion. This might solve my problem about gettting another truck. Hmmmm.....to be continued!
Almost a bolt in with the same year vehicles, true?

DIY sounds like the better way to go if you have the knowledge.

Those conversions seem pricey...the MH one I did one the 750 was $20k US.

Only problem I see is that the axles on the vans are about 4" wider, so using a regular truck axle will likely give frame rub. That may be where some of the cost comes from.
