Water pump 3.8 V6 front wheel drive

I'm working on a mercury Sable...bla-bla-bla. I know -- my own fault!
Can anyone tell me if you have to jack the engine to install a water pump?
Thanks for any help as we don't have a repair manual. The car is a 1994.

Correct you don't have to jack the motor. But I can't remember for sure it's been awhile, there might be long studs that go through the timing cover into the block you may have to remove them so the water pump will come out.
