It's funny how Ford boasts the 400 CI V8 when GM had gotten rid of the 400 SBC by then... "Leaving a big gap between the 350 CI V8 and the 454 CI V8" then Ford turns around and gets rid of the 400 in their lineup leaving you with the choice of a 351W or 460...

Shame, too, cause a 400 is the perfect size IMHO.

I agree, I think the 400's served very well in the truck applications.
I'm guessing emission crap got the best of both of them.
 
wasn't the GM 400 a short stroke while the Ford 400 is long stroke.

I drive some old Firebirds and whatever with 400's in them.

I preferred my 67 327 Nova

3-3/4'' I believe...I remember using the 400 cranks in 350's to get a 383 stroker...many moons ago.

You'd be surprised...it's all in the way you drive them. My 350 gets a solid 19 mpg (imp) with the kind of driving I do.
