Replacing electric brakes with new

I'm ordering new electric brakes for the 18' travel trailer. One of the wheel bearings grenaded last summer, and got hot enough to destroy the functioning parts of the brake, so I'm going to replace all 4 of them(2 axles).

I plan on soldering the new brake wiring to the old wiring and sealing with heat-shrink tubing. Is there anything else I need to do to ensure a watertight seal?

I've never seen one not work... I've done some pretty bad brake wiring

I think if you take the normal precautions you shouldn't have any issues.

Sounds like you will do a fine job Doug, they really don't require much. Put a bit of grease on the pivot too.

Thank you, both. I will find the "improved" heat shrink. I've also heard that antiseize works well on the pivot?

I'm also replacing the bearings and drums.

That should work fine. The ones on my sister's horse trailer actually seized up in service.

What Mark said about the heat shrink with sealant...also, use metal butt splices and crimp them before soldering....if you can't find the plain metal ones, use a pair of side cutters and remove the insulation from an insulated one.
