What are you towing it with?

It wont be as much of a problem with an F350 as it would be with a Ranger....

I towed my 77LTD II on a tandem axle car hauler 45 miles without trailer brakes behind an 83 F150....also a 97 Expedition behind my 78 F350....both trucks had 4 speed manuals which helped the halting process quite a bit....i would say it could be done..but probely not the smartest idea.

Doable, yes. Wise, debatable. I've been more on the debatable side of wise when pulling flatbeds in the past.

I guess now is not the time mention I've highway towed a dead car with chains before...stupid...yes, get the job done...yes, lucky...yes. Left someone in the other car...and they applied the brakes if needed.

Standard practice out here to use a towrope like that .... the towed vehicle doesn't even have to have a valid safety inspection or registration - normally it's only done to get something off the road to the nearest town but it really is a young fellers game as the stress levels involved at being the "towee" travelling at 90km (55mph) 12 feet behind the back end of a truck turn your hair grey especially when you've got no power brakes and bugger all forward visibility.

When I pull like that, whether I'm puller or pullie, we have a system tapping of the pulling vehicles brakes is sign to pullie to start braking and they are the brakes. The goal is to keep the chain/strap tight. No faster than 50mph, and "in tow displayed on the back of the vehicle.

I've pulled my dad's PSD with a Toyota pickup before w/o incident...

Just for the record; I pull my 4000 lb boat with my 7000lb E350. I have the surge break system disabled because I got tired of having to pin it with all the backing up I have to do. I also only pull it about 5 miles @ 35 mph to the boat ramp.

Tow vehicle being heavier then the towed vehicle is a bit safer.

My dad was in his truck so I had no fear so to speak. Did take some tire spinning to get it moving though.
