Hanging out in the back yard

Big kitty making itself comfy in a suburban Portland flowerbed. Neighbors are advised to keep small pets and food indoors. Duh! This was taken a lot closer to town than where we live.

NC officially listed the Eastern Cougar extinct in January, but there are still tons of cougar sightings. Their existence can't be confirmed because we haven't seen a dead one since 1938. I haven't seen a dead hooker in a while, must mean those are extinct too. Most explanations are large dogs or light colored black bears. The proposal of western cougars coming this way has been dismissed because 'they're not indigenous'. Well no shit. So apparently NC has a metric ass ton of light colored cougar looking dogs and bears. That's probably all yours is too...haha.

We have no illusions like that. This is the season young males are out in search of territory, so they often find themselves in suburban environments. I've never seen one- but I've sure as hell heard them on occasion in the woods behind the house.

He's baack!

Small dog, bunnies, and food in the back yard... check. Hungry Cougar. Check. Closer to us this time- about 20 blacks away, but still towards town.

Now about a mile away on the other side of the small valley.

Wonder if it's the same guy?

They used to deny them here too, Ben.

Ever since the advent of good quality mobile phone cameras, they've had to admit they exist. They had a mountain lion on the north end of Pleasant Hill a few months back. Magnificent creatures... But I'd shoot it if it were in my yard.
