I hope everyone was ok throughout the storm. I still have no power and running on a generator that is having issues like an oil leak and a bad carburetor but feel lucky to have it. Gas in NJ is a real issue with lines a mile long for people waiting. Hopefully soon stuff will be normal again.

Nonunion Ala. crews turned away from Sandy recovery

SEASIDE HEIGHTS, NEW JERSEY (WAFF) -

The hurricane-ravaged east coast has been receiving north Alabama help, but crews learned they'll be doing work in Long Island, New York instead of in New Jersey.

The crews that are in Roanoke, Virginia say they are just watching and waiting even though they originally received a call asking for help from Seaside Heights, New Jersey.

The crews were told to stand down. In fact, Moore said the crew from Trinity is already headed back home.

Understandably, Moore said they're frustrated being told "thanks, but no thanks."

unbelievable! even in a time of need, geez.

smilieIagree smiliewhathesaid - sometimes you have to wonder at the power and stupidity of unions....... or more likely some of their officials who don't have the ability to think on their feet and realize that the "book" is not always right.
In times like these with cleanup and rescue operations going on the political and bureaucracy crap just needs to get put aside and get on with the job - presently we have court cases going on in Christchurch which are looking at how emergency teams and officials interacted (badly) with enquiries discovering that one of the buildings that collapsed claiming most of the 180 lives lost during the earthquakes was designed by a engineer with faked qualifications and overseen by officials who turned a blind eye to inadequacies in it's design - the collapse of this building was made even worse by a "pissi**" match between rescuers and police and firemen over who got to go in first which led to a delay of two hours during which parts of the collapsed building caught fire killing people who may have been able to be saved.
As a country we were amazed and pleased with the help we had from around the world - Australian , American , European countries all had rescue and support personnel on the ground and helping within a couple of days which was greatly appreciated.
