I have a chance to buy a 351M with a C6 Trans for $200.00

I was wondering what it would take to make a good low to mid range HP & Torque engine, is it hard to do, what series engine are these?

I have found a T Bucket Kit that I think this would be good to put in after being rebuilt.

335 Series Cliff....there is tons of info here if you do a quick search, but they respond the same as any other engine with basic mods.

Other things like changing the crank to a 400 crank will give you an instant 50 cubes and then there are things like the closed chamber Australian heads.

You should check out Tim Meyer's site

I did and I forgot to take my stupid pills this morning. :wasntme:

Thanks for telling me the series so I know now how to look it up. I wonder how hard it is to find a 400 crank here? So this is a small block on steroids almost?

Np..and I'm sure there are still some at autowreckers....but then don't forget you are going to have to get it checked...adds a lot more work than just doing bolt-on's.

No idea.....but if you can't see it running I would be leery...you'd need to pull the plugs and maybe the valve covers .

If I couldn't see it running and operational in a vehicle..esp with a transmission attached, I'd be prepared to wind up spending $$ on it.

If you are going to go to the length of heads, then it would be wisest to go with the CC Aussie heads....but then you will be looking at pistons as well....which will then mushroom into a complete rebuild.

Yeah I am kind of worried about that. It is the only Modified in my area. Even the 302 is hard to find. I found several 460 but I ain't interested in them. I really don't want to take a chance on the wreckers but may have to.

I had planned a full build. I don't want to drop a engine in a T Bucket and have it let go after starting it.

Duncan that was a good read. These engines are not cheap to build. He offers a 400 short block which is really not what I wanted.

I don't think they are a whole lot more than any other engine when you compare apples to apples.
If you take any engine, whether a 302 or a 460 and start doing a complete build on it, it will be costly to do it correctly.

I agree the last 302 me and one of my sons built ran almost $2500.00 and that was using stock parts.

It is costly...the engine I am doing added up quickly.

I think $200 for a M/C6 is an OK price. I've bought and sold 351M's from free to $100 and C6's from $25-$150. Not knowing the condition would make them cores to me, and I'd probably top out at about $150, at that price, you can get a good chunk of your change back at the scrapper. It really depends on what your budget is...it's not overly expensive to get these engines to the 300hp/400tq level, which is more than enough for 95% of applications. My favorite cams to run in these engines are from the DEH (255 and 265) and XE (256 and 262) line ups from Comp. Get the whole kit (cam, double roller timing set, springs, locks, etc), get a set of iron Aussies ($400 bare), carb, intake, headers...and you'll be good to go. TMI has 400 cranks for $295...but if I were to go that far in, I'd go new pistons too...hypertectics for more mild builds, but the KB flat tops (TMI offers) are pretty sweet too (but with the aussies and flat tops, and all else being relatively mild, probably too much compression for street use and anything less than 93 octane).
