tires look like new, date code says they are 4 years old. just took them off a couple of weeks ago. havent gone back to my factory alloy wheels yet, took cap off so i could paint the roof and install clearance (cab roof) lights, always loved those.
finnaly was nice enough out to paint cab roof of truck silver, turned out good but the tailgate turned out even better. when i first made the bed a two-tone i did the tailgate first and it ended up being a lighter shade of blue than the rest of it. I had removed the blue oval emblem and filled the emblem locater holes in with jb weld, had thought about putting the " F O R D" letters across the back like they did in the 70's and on early rangers but just hadnt got around to it yet. well today i got the bright idea to do it with paint. i cleaned and lightly sanded the tailgate, taped off the silver areas and the tailgate handle, then laid down wood letters on the tailgate, then sprayed with the darker color blue, letting the wood letters mask the lighter blue paint i had used before. i then took the letters off and the tape then clearcoated over it all. think it turned out pretty good. hopefully the roof of the truck being silver will help reflect the suns heat in the summer, much like the reason above ground gas tanks are painted silver. since this is a non-a/c truck, every little bit may help.

Looks good!

You know, you are only a step away from the full blown old school two tone paint scheme

i know, the only reason i havent
'finished" it is im concerned about sun glare off the hood if it is silver, i probly should have went the other way and did silver in the middle, leaving top and bottom edge dark blue. doing this has been a big reminder of the first ruck i remeber dad buying, it was a 74 F250 reg cab longbed, two-tone green paint, had the ranger package, heck i still have the big RANGER emblems from the bedsides somewhere. it had the 300 and creeper 1st 4 speed. first truck i drove too. it was retired in 91 when the cab mounts failed and you couldnt hardly steer it due to the weight of the cab binding the steering shaft. (yes, it did have power steering) i remember what i first liked about the 74 was the cab lights. had to watch if all 4 of us were in the truck, when dad went for reverse the lever was right against the seat. real ouch to the knee if you werent paying attention.

was thinking the other day i have a set of full wheel covers from a 76 f150 that might look neat with my 70's themed two-tone scheme. still need to finish the silver on the cab and doors but plan on leaving the hood dark blue, dont want the suns reflection from the silver finish glaring at me, might have a single stripe the width of the hood badge though.

moved the 'ranger' emblem from the fender to the rear bedside (just like they did it back in the 70's) going to see about peicing together a "R-140" for the fender emblem. (it is a 'R" series, and little less than a "150" lol)

Emblem on the bed- just like how it was done in the 70’s by dave bird, on Flickr

the "R-140"

next is the stripe going from the front fender to the back of the cab, it will taper to a point at the front. (kind of remembering the starsky & hutch torino) the "r-140" turned out good, still need to fill the holes on fender where the original ranger emblem was, cant really see it from 10 ft away though. ive considered swapping the steering column for a older one just so i can use a late 60's steering wheel.

1976 full wheel covers. these were took off a new truck and put up in storage. hadnt seen the light of day in over 40 years. was a 4x4 so had to silicone a plastic lid to the inside of the centers of the front hubcaps.
