Is there a check valve in the fuel pump on a 2006 Ranger 4.0L "returnless" system?

Thanks! Do you know if there is a TSB on this check valve causing a cold hard start problem on the Ranger 4.0L's?

Fuel Tank and Lines
The mechanical, returnless fuel system consists of:

the fuel tank.
the fuel tank filler pipe, which contains a restrictor plate to permit only an unleaded fuel nozzle to be inserted:
the late build fuel tank filler pipe will contain a ground strap attached to the frame.
a 1/4 turn fuel tank filler cap.
a fuel filter providing filtration to protect the fuel injectors.

a top-mount, bottom-referencing fuel delivery module containing:
the electric fuel pump which provides pressurized fuel to the engine.
the fuel level sensor.
an inlet filter.
a check valve which maintains system pressure after the pump is shut off.
a pressure relief valve for overpressure protection in the event of restricted flow.
a fuel pressure regulator.
The fuel pump is controlled by the powertrain control module (PCM) which energizes the fuel pump relay. Electrical power to the pump is provided through the inertia fuel shutoff (IFS) switch. The IFS switch is located on the toe board to the left of the RH kick panel.

bob, you could try this on cold starts. switch the truck on for like 10 seconds and then start cranking. this will "prime" the system where it has leaked down and should help a little.

if you are only having this issue on cold starts, it may not be the pump. normally when the check valve fails, the fuel pressure will drop off almost instantly cold or hot.

Thanks for the suggestion! I've already suggested cycling the ignition switch to the run position a couple times to the guy to see if it starts better ....
I haven't heard the results yet.

Bump this thread- son is having a starting issue on his '06 Ranger (4X4 S/C 4.0 V6, 5-spd). After sitting overnight, will start- but only will run for 5 or 10 seconds before shutting off. This morning, spraying a flamable into the intake got it to run consistently. Methinks we've got a fuel pump issue. Thoughts?

Last evening, check engine light came on, reading "lean condition both cylinder banks).

TIA

if you give it some throttle will it stay running? if so then it may be a iac.

also if it is a pump issue, get under the truck with a rubber mallet when it wont start and start whacking the center of the tank. if it starts then it is the pump.

Follow-up here. Nick replaced the fuel pump module today, and solved the starting issue. He and a couple of buddies also pulled the bed rather than drop the tank to complete the work. Seems to have solved the problem.
