Squeak in Drive, not reverse

1995 f150 5.8 255k

I have a pretty good cyclic squeak, only when I drive forward, nothing in reverse. I think it might be u joints or carrier bearing? I already took off passenger side drum brake to make sure the shoes weren’t stuck, but I really think it’s coming from the driveshaft, about twice per revolution. I uploaded a short clip of the noise:

eventually it will click in reverse, but that's right before it blows out and leaves you sit

Best way to check them

Chock the wheels. Set park brake
put transmission in neutral

crawl under, and at each ujoint, take driveshaft in your hand and try to turn it back and forth. Watch carefully, if the joint is bad, you will see it move.

I suspect the small cable in your brake drum has left loose/broken that adjusts your brakes. TBH, I would bet you that is your scratching noise

That's the cable that runs from the adjuster wheel clip, and goes up around the shoe hold down and attaches to the top post

So I almost killed somebody getting the carrier bearing off...

Carrier bearing outer rubber was shot and I found one ujoint COMPLETELY SHOT! I couldn’t even rotate the ujoint by hand.

So now I’m putting everything back and looking for torque specs on carrier bolts and rear diff 4 bolts. I have read 70-80 ftlb for the 4 in the back?

That torque is way high unless you have a second u-joint yoke with a bolting ring.
In defense of Ford I can see a (possible) reason the Big Cap was used. All of these yokes use a U-Bolt to hold the U-Joint in place. With a U-Bolt you can apply enough force to distort the U-Joint cap slightly. Then the needle bearings do not rotate and you will ruin a U-Joint in less than a 1000 miles. Torque load is 15-18 lb.ft. With the thicker cap it was harder to distort the cap. You can not get a torque wrench to the nuts. So pull it snug and a bit more. STOP. Do not tighten as tight as tight as possible. For security use a little Blue Lock-Tite on the threads.
