Ford, International bury the hatchet...

2008_superduty.jpg

Ford has avoided a potential crisis relating to its new F-Series SuperDuty truck by reaching an agreement with International that ensures that the automaker will not run out of diesel engines for its new SuperDuty truck anytime soon, reports Automotive News. Under the terms of the agreement, International will maintain engine shipments to Ford, who in turn will stop withholding payment for the engines.

International had stopped shipments of the 6.4-liter PowerStroke engine two weeks ago over a dispute related to warranty costs for the previous generation SuperDuty's troublesome 6.0-liter PowerStroke as well as the price of the new engine.

The shipment stoppage had forced Ford to curtail production of the highly profitable truck as diesel-powered models account for 75 percent of SuperDuty sales. A prolonged impasse would have cost Ford millions.
