I'm kind of debating on engines and gear ratios for my truck.
What engines do you guys run?
What mods?
Axle ratio?
Tire size?
And approx mileage in city and on highway?

I'd even like to hear gen. 5 and 7 trucks as well.

Will be a 434....(waits for abuse :D)
Heavily modded, around 525/550 square, fuel injected.
322.0
3.5 axle with auto, different 1st/2nd ratios
32's
Hoping for at least 15 combined, but it doesn't matter, it's a toy.

I'll just throw in my gen 9 for comparisons sake..

302, built with aftermarket top end. Around 300 at wheels
Built AOD
3.55 gear
255/70/15 tires

10/15 beating the hell out if it
14/22 going very easy (rare)

429 Cam/intake/headers an so on C6 with stage 2 shift kit and 3500 stall 5.13's on 38.5" boggers. Maybe a mile to the gallon, but its prolly closer to a 2 gallons a mile.

I should also mention that its either at idle or its a 5k+ there's really no middle ground. I hit second at 6k and hit third around the same. and then hold around 5k there.

77- Bone stock 400, C6, 3.07 gears, avg 13 hwy, regearing in spring

78- Warmed up 400 (4bbl, performer intake, headers, cam) 4sp, 4.30 gears, 6mpg but more power then you know what to do with.

I think tj your best bet is a 400 with a few mods, 4.11s and an O/D transmission...

The 79 250 (77 is 150):

What engines do you guys run? 400
What mods? ?
Axle ratio? ?
Tire size? 37
And approx mileage in city and on highway? haven't figured in town yet, but on the trip from SC to Maine, it consistently averaged 9-11, depending on whether I was going through mountain ranges or straight flat lands.

You guys must have heavy foots, even the 89 i had with a carbed 460 and 3.55s averaged 11

i think im the only one here with a 6 shooter under the hood. 79 f250 300 6 all stock and original,4 speed manual well 3 speed with creeper gear,3.54 rear, 2wd before the engine started having problems got about 12 mpg no matter what you did with it now its about 8 maybe less(running on 5 cyls will do that though hoping to have it fixed tomorrow or thursday tho, getting the other motor in finally)

I'm set on an efi 460
Building a real nice 390 from scratch
Or a diesel, probably a cummins...

I grew up around 390's and that's all I've worked on or have. Other than the 4 banger mustang I traded for a dent. So I think I'm leaning more towards the 390 than anything

If I do the 390 it will get 4 bbl Holley, edlebrock aluminum heads, performer intake probably, headers, msd dizzy and stuff, maybe a mild cam, and the c6 will be rebuilt and a shift kit put in with a gear vendor on the t case.

Found edlebrock efi kit but idk if that's really worth it, it's also 4k

EFI is nice, if its already there. A properly tuned carb will do just as good.I wouldnt run a holley though...

A 390 would also bolt right in place of your 360..

I know it's not a Gen.6 (lol, how many times have I miss posted in this) but with a 351W and 4.10's W/T-18 manual, 10mpg on a good day.

BBK shorty headers, Flowmaster series 40 true dual with crossover pipe, and shiny valve covers for that little bit of extra horsepower
