I may not see you all again.

I am driving across the state tomorrow to the VA hospital in Fargo for knee surgery at 6:00 AM Tuesday morning. Doing one for sure, possibly both. I have no freaking idea what he is doing. Basically, in his doctor speak, he told me he is giving them a tune up. Port and polish job, or something like that.

Hopefully he will get them back in shape. I can't run any more, and walking is more painful by the day. Best way I can describe it that you guys might understand is: Imagine you have an engine, and the pistons have the surface texture of sandpaper. Now imagine that the cylinder walls have a similar texture. That's about what my knees feel like.

I don't know how it will go, so if you have something to tell me, better say it now. I may not pull through.

You'll be fine- son Nick had it done a few years ago because of a baseball injury. Good luck, and I'm looking forwards to seeing you back soon!

yeah, its my cartilage, I am not worried, I just like making a big deal out of it.

I should be walking out of the hospital, I just hope I get some good drugs to "not" mix with alcohol.

Disclaimer: Kids, mixing high strength pain killers and alcohol is very, very bad for you. Don't do it. If you do, tell you parents Kris (STG) told you about it.

Here is a funny anecdote. This took place at my very first appointment with the doctor that is going to be doing my surgery. He asked me what my goals were for pain reduction/where I wanted to be at the end of it all.

my response, verbatim, was: "Can you cut them off and give me Robot legs?"

He just looked at me for a second, and I couldn't help but crack a tiny grin, and once he saw that, he burst out laughing. It was a nice way to set the tone of our relationship.
