new pump does not come with a gear (careful, you can reinstall backwards)

master tech if the hpfp is gear driven why change the pump when the wire is the problem?
In this particular instance, it was decided that because we were already there, just change it. On the 6.4, there are pass through wires in the fuel pump cover gasket. At times, those wires that are internal can chafe against the pump body causing a short. Then you have to remove the cover. There are diagnostic steps that must be performed before cover removal though.
