Fuel pump?

I was under the front of my truck working on the bumper when
I noticed the fuel pump had like a small canister on the bottom.
Is that canister an actual filter that supose to be changed?...I
didnt know that it was like that...

While it may look like a filter, it is just a larger reservoir on the pump.

I also thought that was a filter housing. I see they sell paper filter canisters to fit inside a housing?

My Bronco II had one of those canisters. Inside the drivers side frame rail just behind the drivers seat.
Once opened the gas would siphon out of the tank.

Am I talking about the same thing. Looks like it was put on trucks 56-74?

I remember changing these out on all the railroad trucks. The gas station I worked at had the maintenance contract to take care of them.

Lol....Thats the one!
I had a feeling that it had a filter inside, but wasnt sure.I didnt want
to wrench on it an disturb anything on it until I knew for sure what it
was.
About 3 months ago,I was driving on the freeway with a low tank of
gas,the engine sputered alittle like it was scruffin up trash.
That filter is more than likely to be the original,so it needs to be changed.
Thnx Guy's for your input,its very appreciated...YelloThumbUpYelloThumbUp

I have seen pumps that had the look like they were removable, but weren't as well, so it looks like it can be either.
