4.0 SOHC timing chain 03 Explorer

Has anyone tackled this mess. I have the kit for torqing
everything down from OTC , but I don't know how to line up cams and the
new sprockets??????? I have read now that I need to do all adjustments with
rockers removed OK, but where do you line sprockt up to cams.
EACH SPROCKET has 3 little dots between each bigger hole that my tool
goes into and a # 10 in between the big holes, Does that have something
to do with it ???
I have Mitchell on demand but it is very vague......
Can anyone guide me where I might be going wrong??
Thanks , gatrman56:headbang:
Sure is a crummy design !!!!!!

You always start at the rear of the pass side head. You should have a dummy timing chain adjuster to screw into the head. Then you move to the front, pass side. Then to the front of the driver side head (again, using the dummy chain tensioner).

I have that also the whole kit.You mean you screw that in and the
chain can be anywhere and it will run perfect.....Do you not have to line the 2
chains drivers and passenger to any marks???? I have the OTC kit # 6488 for this but dont know where to tighten down the sprockets onto the cams..

The dummy plugs simulate full oil pressure (tight chains) The other tools hold the cams in a predetermined spot. The marks actually mean nothing.
