'78 F150 brakes

I'm trying to improve the brakes on my '78 F150. My pads and shoes are good but I don't have a very firm pedal. What can I check to improve my brake. Could the booster need to be replaced. That's a part I have never replaced.smilieFordlogo

given the age it wouldn't hurt and could be a likely cause. a booster and master cylinder combo is $100. another cause could be old rubber brake lines, they like to swell when the brakes are pressed as they age causing poor pedal feel.

If the brakes just feel spongy, try bleeding the brake system first. If the brake booster was bad, your brake pedal would go to the floor (not hold pressure) and there would be visible signs of brake fluid leaking on the booster itself. Check the wheel slave cylinders also for signs of leaking.
