Its been a while since i been here... looking for some help on my new project.
I just got complete rear axle and according to the ID tag it is a 99-01 ford 10.5 axle with 4.10 and limited slip. Probably 99 since the disc brakes are facing opposite direction. My plan is to re gear to 5.38 with a 10.25 ring and pinion and 10.25 install kit.
I am bit confused about the factory carrier... it says its a 10.25 but the axle is 10.5. Did some come this way? Maybe someone has swapped it out. I measured the gear that is currently on and its a 10.5. The other thing that confuses me is the factory pinion and my new pinion (10.25 gear set) appear to be the same. I thought the pinions from 10.5 to 10.25 were different which is the reason for the difference in inner pinion bearings. Are the pinions the same between 10.5 and 10.25?
