351C Parts

that engine will be ok for a truck but it is better for a car. the cleveland and modified engines are in the same family. it is the 335 group and they can be fun to play with. the only thing is the cleveland has a smaller main cap size so torque issues can arise. other than that, if it is a 2wd truck, then everything should be ok, due to tons of aftermarket cleveland stuff.

I think you mean smaller main Journal size.....the caps are actually pretty beefy.

Believe it or not, the smaller journal doesn't really affect strength and is preferred for cooler oil temps.

So, I traded my '90 7.5 for a '72 5.8C today and I need to know what family the motor fits into. It came out of a '72 LTD Country Squire and I'm dropping it into a '70 F-100, main thing I'm looking for is ignition, pans, and headers.

Thanks,

Stupid question:

How do you know it's a 351C???

400's were used in full size Fords in '71/'72.

2V 351C's and 351M/400's are very close in appearance from the outside. The 351M/400 has a taller deck height and wider intake manifold.

Also, the 400 will use the 429/460 (385 series) bellhousing bolt pattern.....even though there are some rare 400's that use the 302/Windsor pattern.

Now here's a question (two actually).I've been looking for a flexplate online and I've been finding that they're listed (Summit as well as ebay) as 28oz/164tooth for 289 thru 351C... Is that accurate? Also if that is correct, up to what year will work, 1980 I have an '85 302 sitting in the shop complete front to back and it came out of a Lincoln T/C, would save me some cash if that were the case It ain't, E2AZ-6375-A fits 1982 and later...Thanks.
Hey, what happened to 1981??
I thought you'd never ask...1981 only uses E0SZ-6375-A and you thought this job was EZ? HAH!
The following BS was taken from the 1965/72; 1973/79; 1980/89 Ford Passenger Car Parts Catalogs.

C5AZ-6375-T > > replaced by > > EOAZ-6375-A .. Flexplate~164 Tooth Ring Gear~(1965/67 289)~(1968/72 302)~(1969/72 351W) (1970/72 351C)

1973/74 351C/351W: Now it gets tricky, there's one flexplate (EOAZ-6375-A) used with C4/FMX and another (D1ZZ-A) used only on C6's.

1975/79 351W uses EOAZ-6375-A. / 302's after 1972 use EOAZ-6375-A on 73/74 Bronco's, 1976/78 Granada, 1976/77 Maverick, 1977/78 LTD, LTD II, T-B, Bronco.

1979 302 uses EOAZ-6375-A with C4 & FMX / 1980 302 with C4, FMX & AOD uses (harried partsdummy switches to microfiche) EOAZ-6375-A...and that's all folks, the end of the line for this flexplate.

Why am I listing Bronco's and not F Series trucks? Cuz, fellow members, Bronco's are in the car parts catalogs 1966/79, that's why. I didn't look to see what EOAZ fits inre to F Series trucks & E-vans.

EOAZ6375A .. Flexplate / MSRP: $81.34 / ftfpartsguy.com price: $65.40

Part number prefix, if typin' that flexplate number into Ed's site, it's typed either: EO, or Eo...not E0! OK?

Don't ask me why, ask Mr. Ed why..E0AZ is the way it's listed in the catalog, but E0 won't work on the website.

Then it could be a 400 with the baby C6.................. sbf pattern. Better measure the width of the intake manifold. 400 will measure approx 13" between the inside edges of the valve covers.

will do, I'm headed out the door now to go parts shopping.

Dig up an old registration.

The 5th digit in a cars VIN (thru 1979) is the engine size.

H = 351C 2V / M = 351C 4V / S = 400

Good luck, car's been scrapped for close to a year now...smiliegitrdone
