Preface: my dealership-owning buddy (who I purchase most of my vehicles through) likes to throw interesting detail jobs at me every now and then. This van was definitely interesting... Turns out the gentleman who owned it fell on hard times and the van sat under some pine trees for an undetermined amount of time.

Game plan: full exterior decontamination, vinyl letter removal, interior quick clean. Sounds simple, eh? I had 10 hours in this thing!

Step one was the exterior. ** Here's a note: NEVER should you ever scrub a vehicle. I don't care the age or condition. Every single contaminant in any paint surface can be safely and effectively removing using other methods. My wash soap was a mixture of degreaser for bite & regular car wash soap for lubricity. Having less friction is key for mega dirt like shown here. **

I always have an assortment of brushes for jobs like this. I used my favorite - a 1" boars hair brush to agitate diluted degreaser in all of the corners. Same treatment for door jambs, engine bay, window lines and crevices.

As far as the interior goes, a thorough clean wasn't too terrible.

As far as the inside goes, generic degreaser and my steam cleaner. Outside after decontamination was a polish under the lettered areas and a quick cheap wax for the whole rig.

Total chemical cost for that job was less than $15.
