fatherdoug, It looks as if no stone was left unturned. I now have the retainer in place, so now I Just need to put the new turn signal switch back in place. I also need to look over the neutral switch because I found the clip for it and now I need to figure out how it goes on. Thank you for the time you took to help me out.

Thank you, Sir! Glad it helped. There is a mistake in the '78 manual for the Neutral Safety Switch. The'78 manual shows the NSS attached to the column, as it was in '77 and earlier. That is not the case. On '78 models and later, the NSS is attached to the side of the transmission.
