Running Biodiesel?

Anyone ever heard of or is running Biodiesel in their 7.3L with good results?

I thought i remember people saying bad things happen to the engine when you run bio diesel in a powerstroke but i never really confirmed this. And this was years ago..

My 99.5 powerstroke has 137K miles on it and still runs like new. With the high fuel cost, a buddy and i would like to either make or purchase biodiesel for our trucks.

I do have a small gas mileage car but some days i wonder if my diesel aint getting better mileage than this hoopty of a car lol Diesel is finally a lower price than regular gas around me and i would actually much rather drive the truck anyways!!!

cold weather its a little iffy (the bio turns to butter). But a 7.3 pretty much will run it ok.

As long as it's biodiesel and not straight vegetable oil. SVO is what causes problems in most engines.

And x2 on cold weather starting problems

Yes they will run on anything.....I'm running 90% WMO and 10% diesel. I know of one or two people running a similar cocktail in their later models 7.3 as well as a lot of Cummins guy. WVO is some nasty stuff.....

I bought 5 gallons last spring when diesel hit 4.50, b-100 was 4.25, bought locally: http://www.simplefuels.com/

what I did becasue I was concernd about the rubber gaskets and what not in my '93, was just add a gallon or so with every fill-up. Really like how it smells, and it gives me a warm fuzzy, when I run it. hopin to go get another fiver soon.

Not if done correctly, however, it may soak into them... Running bio blend around here last few winters was a bad thing when the tractors sit in the cold all the time. If you keep the fuel warmed, it is ok, but they gell at higher temps. Old man keeps the fuel in jugs outside, pouring it into the tractor, could see the gel forming, cloudy fuel. One tractor gelled in the front yard pushing snow... had to sit until it warmed up a bit. Brother in law was running the same unit down the road because he got himself stuck in my lane (drove an Escort down our lane, known to have 1-2' high drifts...)it gelled int he ope area, which made for a fun time to get it back to the farm. Had to run the generator with the charger, block heater, and propane heater to get it going again. I am not much of a fan of B10-15 for winter... In the warmer, no problem.

Local trucking company was mixing their waste oil in with the fuel they had at the shop. Friend of mine was working there, said it was messing up the injectors, and this company is pure OTR...
