Cruise Control Slop

Any vehicle I've ever had or driven eventually develops cruise control slop, ie...it doesn't hold/maintain speeds as well up or down grades and while using the controls to accelerate or coast, it may not be by the increments it once did. So what is it in CC that wears that causes this? Springs, wear spots, other issues???

Some of it is the detection method, many times vacuum coupled with speed detection. It can take some time to read that it has dropped speed, which then makes it fall behind more due to the lag time in response. Even in the computer controlled vehicles, it still has some lag. With the current fly-by-wire setups, you would think the lag would be minimized, as there is no cables and such to have to maintain tension on, it is completely controlled by the throttle actuator. However, there is still a lag even with the fly-by-wire systems too.

Vacuum Leaks rate higher than mechanical.

Corrosion on small hidden electrical contacts don't help
