getting into the city/parking

OK, guys...need some advice here.

In September, I'm going to a wedding in Brooklyn.

Wedding is Saturday, we've got a hotel Friday and Saturday nights, somewhere in Brooklyn (the whole family is going to stay in the same hotel). Dad is looking into whether there's parking at the hotel (or a garage nearby they recommend), and if there is, I'll probably just drive there.

If not, though, I'm wondering where would be a good place to ditch the pickup and hop on a subway/train. If it were in Boston, I'd park at Alewife (just outside the city, sort of affordable parking, but close enough to get on the "T"), but I don't know the NYC area at all. I'll be driving in by way of Schenectady, whatever road it is that goes that way. (Haven't looked at a map recently).

There are tons of parking garages in NY. I would just go with what the hotel has. Driving in NY is an experience LOL

OK...I didn't know if it would be easy enough to find a garage nearby. In Boston (the only big city I know at all), you save tons of money and headaches ditching your car at the outer limits of the T (subway), before you really get into the city. Seems like the last time I went to downtown Boston, I spent $7 for parking (for an afternoon), and $5 on train fare, compared to $10-15/hr parking where I was going IF you could even find anywhere with room.

Yeah...I ain't looking forward to it, but it doesn't really phase me, either. Least this time I'll be in my own rig, and not pulling a trailer. :)

This truck isn't geared for city driving, though...first gear is just too high with the 3.73s, so it's hard on the clutch when you're bumping along in stop-and-go traffic. Much more so than the other Ranger, with smaller tires and 4.10s...I actually found that truck more pleasant in traffic jams than my automatic Escort.

Parking is expensive as far as I know. I don't drive around there. I like to avoid it LOL. The hotel will probably be the best option. I've never stayed in NYC, but I was in New Orleans a few weeks ago with the same concern of what to do with the car. The hotel had valet parking to an offsite garage. It was $30, but was worth it over the public garages around. If you call the hotel they should be helpful in explaining parking. They were helpful to me when I called on the way to New Orleans.

I live in Brooklyn.. let me know when youre coming and if youre not too far youre welcome to park on the street outside my door.. Heck if you are spending a day or so here youre welcome to hang out and have a meal with the wife and I.. give me the name of the hotel and location and ill tell you about it

Thanks, Bob...

I know I've got the dates and name of the hotel somewhere...but stuff's been hitting the fan around here (and there's a race tonight :wasntme:), so it may be a day or two before I can find it.

Pretty sure it's the weekend after Labor Day.

I gotta try to get my sister's schedule, too...I know she's got less time than I do, but since she's between me and there, I expect I'll end up driving her down and back.
