Needing to find a flywheel. I believe I'm seeing two different options, one being internal balance and the other being external balance. How do I know what I need to look for? My experience is in SBFs and FEs 385s are a bit of a gray area.

So, picked up a flywheel. Pre-'79 460s are internally balanced which means a flywheel from a 460 will not work due to Ford not installing a manual behind a 460 until after '78.

Did some digging and a flywheel from an FE bolts right up, because FEs are also internally balanced.

Any FE flywheel will work; however, 360 and smaller displacement are only drilled for an 11" clutch. Which will work on a stock 460 as long as it's not beat on and abused. 390 and up are drilled for a 12" clutch, which will work on a mildly built 460 and take a good deal of punishment.
