ATV Trailers

Headed to Casper, WY on Monday to pick up a slightly used 7' X 14' ATV trailer. It has removable side rails on both sides of the wheels, and a ramp in the back. It has 15" wheels and a 3500 lb single axle. The trailer is 4 years old and was used 4 times. The taillights are also recessed to avoid damage.

The trailer has a wood floor with pressure treated wood. Any tips on things to look for?

Just keep an eye on the wheel bearings- nominal 3500 lb axles can be pretty light duty, although having real-sized wheels suggests to me it's got decent parts.

Not that hard to upgrade, as I understand it...but if it was me, I'd be feeling the hubs every stop between Casper and home, for sure.

EDIT: That sounds like a nice size for a trailer- I rented a 6x12 from UHaul a while ago- it was a heavy freakin' thing (2200 lbs empty, according to the sticker on the tongue) but a handy size- big enough to hold stuff, small enough you could almost forget it was back there.

Ian pretty well covered my only tip... Been there done that with hubs seizing up on the interstate Being only 4 years old you shouldn't have to worry about the age of the tires.

Check all the wiring....even on my new Aluma I was less than thrilled about the way they ran stuff. I think I might have shown Frank the way the brake wire was connected...

Will do. I looked at some new ones in Billings today and there was NO protection on the wires that ran through holes in the frame. Based on pictures, it looks like the lights are encased in rubber, like boat trailer lights.

I believe so. The side rails fold out and provide the ramp, I believe.
