So I've go my '86 and the cruse hasn't worked for friggen ever, where should I start to get it working again, and what should I expect to pay for the parts?

Well have you tried to track down what it might be?
It could be a sensor, relay broke wire fuse.
Dose it just not work at all or....

Nomad, I don't even know where to start to even try to fix it as I don't know/understand that system. it doesn't work at all...

I would first try to track down the fuses and relays maybe some one can be kind enough to provide a diagram. If not I would get my hands on a Hayens or Cilltons.
My bet would be a blow fuse or relay.

Clock spring on these is part of the steering wheel itself. In order to replace, requires a different steering wheel.

First thing you do is check for power to the system.

It gets power in 2 places.

Check behind the instrument cluster first for a single wire going to the 3-way connector.

The cruise buttons are powered by the previous NON-Cruise Horn power.
I suppose that's why he asked if the horn works, but the horn gets its power another way.

I have a schematic of the cruise system and a TS guide.

Check fuses.

Like said check switches for power.

Then check for power under hood .

The actuator or whatever u want to call it (hooks to throttle cable) go bad . I replaced several on my old 86 .

On the 86's, there is a speed sensor in the hard cable line, that is the closest thing to a speed sensor in those days.

His truck does not have a clockspring.
Check the vacuum dump valve.
If the fuses and the dump valve are OK then more than likely you need to clean the brushes in the column. Check the resistance when each is pushed.

I do not have a diagram for the 86 but I think that the 88 is the same so here are two diagrams for the 1988 speed control.

And here is one of how it works and TS tips.

Good Luck
