Many years ago, my dad thought it ok to have the front tires of a car we were removing a transmission from on rims over cinder blocks. I was fully under the car when I popped the shift linkage out of the shifter, and out of park. It started to roll off, I grabbed the sway bar and hauled ass out from under there. Instead of falling on my head, had I not noticed it coming, it fell such that the sway bar was across my chest and had the torsion bar adjuster bolt pinning my leg. My dad had to jack it up off of me. I told him never again, jack stand or I don't go under. Ended up with a couple broken ribs out of that deal.

The project ... 1978 F150 4wd shortbed 351 auto

Geez Doug, close call! Never trust anything that is concrete ( ie. bricks, cinder blocks, paver stones, etc)
The old saying "wood is good" is the only material I use to gain a few inches. Hmmm, that may come across wrong, or even a pun in there, haha!

You haven't lived life until you're working under your car that's up on jackstands, you hear a noise in the distance that sounds like a train but there are no tracks near your house, it's getting louder, and then as your garage door beings to make funny noises and the car starts rocking on jackstands, you realize it's an earthquake........

You still managed to use the most important safety tool of all though... Situational awareness. That's what I'm always telling the guys at site safety meetings... Don't be a mindless robot. Pay attention to what's going on around you and it will keep you and those around you out of a lot of trouble.

Also taller jackstands would have helped
