If it's free, then it's for me...can't argue that price. For $1000, you should be able to find a good engine, trans and axle...and get it in and driving over the weekend.

Ask around for a car hauler or rollback and see if you can't get it rented.

Only way to be sure is to measure the stroke I believe.

^^^Yeah...IIRC, the 352-360-390-410 all looked the same externally, and the only way to tell the difference was by measuring the stroke.

^^^my preferred method is to pop the belts off the engine (for ease), pull the number 1 plug. Get a dowl about 6" long, stick it in the plug hole. Rotate the engine at the crank bolt with a 1/2" ratchet and IIRC a 15/16" deep socket. When that dowl stops moving upward, mark it flush with a sharpie. Then continue rotating, when it stops going downward, mark the dowl flush. Then pull the dowl out...measure the distance between the marks and that'll give you the stroke length.

To add to Bens post 3.5" means its either a 352 or 360 3.75" means 390, 406, 427 and 3.98" means its either a 410 or 428. To verify which exact one it is youd have to pop a head off and measure the bore but thatll give ya a ball park idea.

Could be either a 360 or a 390 as both look identical and share the same bore (4.05"). The stroke is different: 360 = 3.50" / 390 = 3.78"

Caveat Emptor: Let the buyer beware: On sale day, 360 engines magically become 390's!

This 360/390 engine is from a 1973/76 F100/350 as it has an EGR valve on it, and a block casting number prefix of D3TE (1973).

With a D3TE block casting number prefix, the block cannot be another size other than a 360 or 390 and it cannot be from anything else.

Passenger Cars ~ Last year for the: 352: 1967 / 390: 1971 / Merc 410: 1967 / 427: 1968 / 428: 1970. None of these would have a D3TE block casting number prefix!

F100/350's: 352 = 1965/67 / 360/390 = 1968/76.
