After much thought I would like to "walk back" that last statement and offer a further explanation into my frustration.

This is my first round of ownership of a vehicle from the 60s and I've just been driven nuts with not being able to track the problem on such a mechanically simple vehicle.

Update:

SHE LIVES . . . . . . sort of.

I turned on the lights before starting and noticed they died when I tried to start it. I tugged the neg battery terminal and the wire slipped right out of the connection. After cleaning and reconnecting the wire and spraying some starting fluid into the carb, the truck fired right up without like it was meant to be.

She dieseled a bit when I shut it down, but a little carb tuning should fix that because when I turned the idle screw down it dieseled less. Finally a turn in the right direction, lets see if we can keep it going!

Sounds like the finish line is in sight now. Those little things can be a source of major headaches.

After cooling and a little starter fluid, I got her home.

It died while idling in front of the store and the ignition control was very hot to the touch. I believe that the ignition control is getting too hot and shutting the truck down so I either need to move the module inside the cab or somehow isolate it from the insane heat generated under the hood with the headers and exhaust leaks (warped headers).

On a positive note, the floats are good along with the idle and it no longer diesels upon shutdown.

Here is a video of her idling. Sorry for the low quality, but that was the only way I could get it to upload.
