1997 Expedition OD light blinks

Hi all-
A friend of mine has a '97 Expedition. He bought it a few months ago. Twice since he bought it, he notices that the overdrive light on the shift lever handle is blinking. Just driving down the highway. Then he pulls over to the side of the road. Shuts off the engine. Restarts it and there is no more blinking.
I scanned it and the only code is a P1729-4X4 low switch. Can this code cause the OD light to blink? Or is there another reason why the light blinks?
Any ideas/suggestions are most welcome.

That dtc will generally point to either the switch, the shift motor, or the wiring/connectors. Theres a slight chance for a bad pcm, but that's rare. My guess, shift motor.

The 4x4 also runs through the manual lever position switch (thats what tells the pcm what gear its in, among other things)
