I saw it happen in an Explorer V8. I guess they use the 4.6L? I know it wasn't a 5.4L :)

On my 5.4L, the back two plugs broke off.

Pull the coils, spray lots of PBblaster into the holes. Let it sit and soak. After soaking, use your socket and ratchet to break them loose and no more. Tighten them back up. Gradually, loosen and tighten them back, increasing slowly the amount loosened until they're out.
