One of the aspects of diversity in California are the many types of fruit and nuts they produce.......

Of course if he had been born in the right century.... He would have experienced the eclipse as bar-b-que.

I got my solar glasses and they're legit. Looking through them is like trying to look through a black trash bag.

Discovered yesterday that looking through a floppy is darker than looking through the glasses. Thus, good to go and good to go with the camera.

In other news, we have another CL jewel...

Darker doesn't mean anything, if it isn't meant to block UV!!! Please be safe people! Email from my doc:

Certainly you’ve heard the United States is going to have a prime view for a solar eclipse on Monday, August 21st. A solar eclipse is an unusual and beautiful natural phenomenon but can also be very dangerous to your eyes. At Visionary Eye Care our first priority is to protect your vision, so here is what you need to know to keep your eyes protected.

Viewing the sun at any time can cause permanent and irreversible damage to your central vision; this damage is called solar retinopathy. There is no treatment for the condition.

Damage can occur incredibly quickly, less than a minute in some cases. Children, people who have had cataract surgery and those taking medications that increase sun sensitivity are at highest risk.

The only 100% safe way to view the eclipse is to watch it indoors on television.

Do NOT use any form of regular sunglasses alone to view the eclipse. They allow thousands of times too much UV light to reach your eyes!

Do NOT use any cameras, binoculars, or telescopes to view the eclipse unless you have proper filters on the FRONT surface of the lens. Do NOT look through any additional device(s) even while wearing certified eclipse glasses! Cameras, binoculars and telescopes concentrate the sun’s energy and can cause your eclipse glasses to fail which could result in damage to your eyesight. Please Note: Nearly all filters found on amateur astronomy equipment are totally inadequate for viewing an eclipse.

There are 4 ways to view the eclipse outdoors that are generally considered safe. Remember, you alone are responsible for keeping your eyesight safe! Constant and diligent supervision for children viewing the eclipse is recommended.

Certified Eclipse Glasses/Viewers. Specialized and certified eclipse glasses in good condition without scratches or defects are generally considered safe. Many unsafe eclipse glasses are on the market, so be very cautious! Proper eclipse glasses must have an ‘ISO’ symbol and also must be marked ISO-12312-2. Even with eclipse glasses we recommend taking frequent breaks and limiting your continuous direct viewing time as much as possible. Supervise your children incredibly closely. Stand with your back to the sun when putting on or removing your eclipse glasses. If you wear prescription eyeglasses, eclipse glasses can be placed over the top. Do NOT look through any additional device while wearing certified eclipse glasses! Cameras, binoculars and telescopes concentrate the sun’s energy and can cause your eclipse glasses to fail which could result in damage to your eyesight.

Welder Shade #12 or higher. A welder’s hood with shade #12 or higher can be used to view the eclipse provided the glass is not scratched or damaged. Some find #12 too bright, therefore it maybe more comfortable to use a #14 shade. An auto-darkening shade is NOT appropriate for viewing the eclipse and we recommend you do not use a welding glass unless you verify its shade number and condition prior to use.

Pinhole Camera. Another way to indirectly view the eclipse is with a pinhole camera. You can follow the directions for making your own pinhole camera from this excellent NASA how-to guide. Do NOT look directly at the sun or any phase of the eclipse through the pinhole camera and supervise your children very closely. https://www.jpl.nasa.gov/edu/learn/p...inhole-camera/

Indirect Viewing. Indirect viewing involves keeping your back to the sun and weaving your fingers together to create a grid. Hold your hands in front of you and in the path of the sun. Observe the shadow it creates on the ground in front of you. You will see an indirect image of the eclipse as sunlight passes through the gaps you created between your fingers. Do NOT at any time look directly at the sun or any phase of the eclipse.

Please enjoy this spectacular event safely! You can learn more about the upcoming eclipse here: https://eclipse2017.nasa.gov/safety

When I left last night we were down to 33 cars and 42 SUV's @ the airport. That put us about 50 shy of the anticipated rentals (we weren't getting the anticipated returns). Some peeps are out there rockin' Cadillacs, Mercedes's, Infinity's, Jaguars, and Land Rovers that didn't reserve them- it's all we had to give them.
