'87 F250 original carb?

What was the original make of carb on a '87 351ci engine? And how do
I get rid of the " flat spot" off idle? This is driving me nuts!!!! Thanks.

flat spot off of idle, can be caused by a couple things, but usually its a vac leak.

however its rare to find a stock 87 with a carb on it. and its even harder to determine what the problem is when you havn't given us much info.

What would you like me to tell you? It is a original carb so is it Motorcraft or a Holley? I can pull the air cleaner off tomorrow and try to get any numbers. The air pump has been disconnected before I got the truck. The carb was rebuilt about 5 years ago by a specialist company but the truck has less than 4000 miles since that rebuild. Anything else?

High idle that can't be controlled is a bad vacuum leak. Could be as simple as the carb is loose on the intake.

As an answer to the carb question above, some 87 5.8's had a 4 bbl Holley in the first part of 87. The E series were the same way

Late 87, and 88 on will be EFI

Back to your solution, take a can of carb cleaner, and spray around your carburetor, and all your vacuum lines.
When your idle changes, you have found your vacuum leak
