what years will running boards interchange

i'm trying to sell some running boards that fit on a 92-96 and am wondering what other years are compatible

a guy with an 82(ish) said he found out they won't fit in his 250

If they bolt to the body, I would think that 80-96 would work, because the cabs are the same. If they bolt to the frame, it may only work on 92-96 without mods.

I'll double check tonight, but I'm pretty sure they bolt to the frame. does anyone that has these know for sure? i have not had them on my truck, just bought them along with another deal
