We have previous threads of this same topic but they're from 3+ years ago.. A lot of things have change.

You will be able to choose multiple answers.. Please tell in post what vehicle and why. Please also include what type of oil.. No judging of anyone's choices. Just info gathering.

So what are you using? And explain why.. I'm interested I see the reasonings. The reasons against why may surprise some of y'all..

I use Sinopec 15/40 sm/cf grade oil in my 87 5.0 F150 ..... i use this as it's a good multigrade oil with a higher zinc compound than standard modern petrol engine oils

Why the 15w40? To thick of oil causes to much oil pressure. Makes engine work harder.

What's y'all's average temp there?

And as far as zinc content goes, ya never know for sure how much zinc is in the oil unless you do a Virgin oil analysis or they release the info.

Most SN rated oils have plenty of Zinc (typically 800+ppm) for a stock daily driver engine even if flat tappet cam.

5w20 Mobil 1 synthetic in the cars.

I buy it bulk for 2.50a qt.
The tractors and the f 750 10w40 penzoil or wolfshead when I can find it.

Ran the wolf in all my stuff for years.
The newer oil weights made me switch as I couldn't find it in 5w20 our any of the newer weights.
I tore down engines running it and they were clean. Valvoline and quacker state the engines were sludged up and filthy inside. I still won't use them in anything after seeing how dirty they left the internals.

old formulas maybe sludged stuff up.. ive never seen Valvoline sludge anything up except in odd applications that caused extreme high heat in low flow areas of the engine.

but newer formulas ESPECIALLY Sn stuff is extremely good cleaners. Pennzoil ultra is the best off the shelf oil in my opinion.

15/40 used as she'll burn anything less ...... got 130 miles on the clock now.

Forgot to mention the oil also has a cj/4 spec too.

Temp in an average year would go from about 28 up to 95

Not sure of the exact zinc rating in the oil but my area rep assures me that they use this oil in a lot of the older classics and vintage vehicle because of it's higher zinc rate.

Pricing is pretty sharp for out here at my cost of $630.00/ 205 Litre drum (54 us gal) plus gst and freight.

I do run 10/30 in my commodore and Nissan elgrand - the diahatsu just gets whatever is handy at the time though:) - the camper (1983 Mitsubishi canter) gets 15/40 as well as it also burns any lighter spec.

5w-30 in the '09 Ranger, because it's what Ford specs for the 4.0.

I'm running Amsoil Synthetic 0w30 in both the 77 F150 and 79 F250, and am going to take your suggestion on the 06 F150 and 07 Expi and use the 5w20 Synthetic from Amsoil this Spring.

Ken, I am curious to see how the 0W-30 does in the '77 and '79.
