Good and Bad Cat5

Is there such thing as good and bad cat 5 wiring? Or are they all pretty much the same when it comes to quality?

I bought a cheap roll of cat5 once some weird off brand. The covering was stiff and brittle and another roll was soft and seemed way to thin but it worked OK..

Thanks Randy....the bulk Cat5 from China on ebay is SUPER cheap compared to any US suppliers and I just didn't want to get anything that was less in quality.

I bought the cheap stuff it seems to be holding up Ok. The stiff cable was a bit harder to pull around corners and bends but worked ok with no packet loss.

Ideally find Cat5E...good to 350Mhz...more than enough to support 100GBit.

It's always a good idea IMO to use a cable tester on your install to determine packet loss and skew....that way if you do have a problem, it's nice to be able to determine that the cable and connectors are not the problem.

Most cable is made in China anyway...General, Carol, etc.
