Hello Everyone

I am new to this so bare with me if you will . I have had many cars and trucks in my life time but never a modified 1949 F1 pick up. I just bought it from an older gentleman who knew nothing about vehicles except buy them and drive them. Anyway this truck has a 305 stroker chevy engine and trans. I just found that out by tracing numbers. Now it has disc brakes in front but the mystery is that it has a 6 lug bolts both front and back so I know this is not a mustang front. I'm thinking 3/4 truck, anyone have a guess ? I'll paste a photo as sonn as I figure out how . Thanks

Are there any numbers cast in to the differential or a metal tag attached somewhere? Maybe post some pics?:cooldude:

No F1/F2/F100/250 had 6 lug wheels, they're probably the same application as the disc brakes.

Typically Chevy didn't either except in 4wd applications. Initially was thinking maybe they set the body on a Chevy frame. Still quite possible that is the case with a disc conversion on the front unless there were some 6 bolt applications I'm not remembering.

I took it to get new tires 15" and they said a tie rod was bad but could not do anything with out knowing what front end it is. The caliber has only one marking 2 1/8 2113-1. And that doesn't help. Since it has a 1985 chevy 305 with power steering and disc brakes I was thinking maybe an 85-86 chevy truck front end as well. I believe the ck had 6 lugs. I guess I need to know would an F1 fit on that truck frame. I am going to bring it to a front end specialist as soon as I can and see if they can figure this out. I would love to post pics but not sure how. Soon I hope.

Okay I just got a piece of the puzzle, I found rims to fit exactly from a GM colorado/canyon/Izuzu 2004-2008 6 lug offset 15x6.5j . also while cleaning the engine compartment I noticed on the steering box a metal tag completely covered in dirt that read 5826250 and the name toyo. So I am assuming this is part of the GM / Izuzu partnership that was going on until 2016. Hopefully I will get pics on soon, this is a good looking truck just a mystery.

Thanks no I don't mind. now to put a new gasket in for the cowl and the new wiper motor I ordered, Ac and it's good to go ! I hope to drive it everyday and enjoy it

The Isuzu connection sounds more likely to have the 6 bolt rims. A possible quick way to check is look at the frame. Open C-channel was common on domestics, while the imports used a more rectangular tubular style. Get into the later 90's and 2000's, that became less true.

Looking under the truck it has a rectangluar tubing frame no cross bars except trans and engine supports. The Isuzu and chevy trucks both used the same lug bolt patterns though.

Another option for the chassis might be the 83ish Dodge Ram 50/Mitsubishi Forte. The Caliper marking matches exactly and that truck used a 6 lug bolt pattern as well. I still haven't found a reference for the power steering box number though.

update

Okay I put in a new electric wiper motor ,horn and cigarette lighter to charge my phone. Replaced the Idler arm, one motor mount , front calibers and rear brakes and new drums. After a lot of investigation the front is out of a 1985 dodge truck and the back is a chevy rearend. Combined with the 1985 Chevy Engine and trannie, It's alive !

I haven't really taken it out for a real test because of all the rain we have been having and I need to replace the cowl gasket because it leaks there badly. I actually got the weather stripping yesterday and will install it today.Today it's supposed to be dry so I'll take it out for sure. I did drive it for a quick drive in the rain and the wiper fell off ! I got it back on and tightened down. Old trucks gotta love them !

!

I posted photos in the gallery of my 49. This truck supposedly came out of Tennesse, anyone ever seen it before ?

If you'll post your serial number I can tell you if it has ever surfaced on the truck forums/ebay.

Top of the frame rail near th e radiator or data tag on the cowl. Perhaps even the rating tag on the glovebox door.

Should read something like 98RC 123456.

The cowl stamping is more distinctive and give more info IF there is one.

Good looking truck - glad you're getting it sorted out! Welcome!!

I haven't seen that serial number before. Occasionally I'll see repeats on ebay of a truck making the rounds, but not this one.

It is a very early 1949 - likely late January or early February 1949.

Back then, Ford was using the calendar year as the model year.

If you should come up with a cowl stamping we can narrow it down even further.
